BNC connectors

Description and purpose

BNC connectors are the most commonly used series of coaxial connectors. They have a bayonet connection mechanism and can be used at frequencies up to 4 GHz. BNC connectors are used for transmitting radio signals, as well as for data and video. Connectors of this series are used in radios, repeaters, video surveillance systems, measuring equipment and many other devices.

Classification of BNC connectors

By gender:

plug/socket, pin/socket, father/mother, male/female, plug/socket.

There are also reverse polarity (RP) connectors, in which the central pin is replaced by a socket in the male connector body, and the socket is replaced by a pin in the female connector body. The name of the gender of the reverse polarity connectors is determined by the housing, not the central connector.

By type of fastening:

• cable (without additional fastening)
• panel or instrument with four holes for screws for mounting on the panel
• for installation on a bulkhead (bulkhead), fastened with a compression nut, has a lip to prevent scrolling in the bulkhead. There are different modifications for external or internal pressure, depending on the location of the pressure nut relative to the bulkhead.
• for mounting on a printed circuit board (PCB). Available versions that are mounted using the technology of soldering into the hole and pressing into the hole (through-hole press-fit)

By type of connection of the connector with the cable:

• for crimping or crimping, installed on the cable using a crimping tool with hexagonal dies
• for assembly, prefabricated with cable clamping with a nut
• under ration

For convenience, the entire variety of coaxial cables is divided into cable groups according to characteristic sizes. There are BNC connectors for both conventional braided cables and semi-flexible cables. There are also connectors with a lamella for soldering the conductor.

• 50 or 75 ohms

By sealing

Sealing of the connection between male and female BNC connectors is usually IP54. Individual models of connectors may have a different degree of sealing (see specifications).
